We spend 1st January ...

Image
"We spend January 1st walking through our lives,  room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential." ― Ellen Goodman Photo by Ando Fuchs

Each moment

Image
To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field, it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again. ~ Ralph Waldon Emerson ~ Photo Sergei Vagaev

Live your story

Image
Live your Story... "A story is alive, as you and I are. It is rounded by muscle and sinew. Rushed with blood. Layered with skin, both rough and smooth. At its core lies soft marrow of hard, white bone. A story beats with the heart of every person who has ever strained ears to listen. On the breath of the storyteller, it soars. Until its images and deeds become so real you can see them in the air, shimmering like oases on the horizon line. A story can fly like a bee, so straight and swift you catch only the hum of its passing. Or move so slowly it seems motionless, curled in upon itself like a snake in the sun. It can vanish like smoke before the wind. Linger like perfume in the nose. Change with every telling, yet always remain the same.” ~Cameron Dokey

The legend of the dreamcatcher

Image
The Legend of the Dreamcatcher Long ago when the world was young, an old Lakota spiritual leader was on a high mountain and had a vision. In his vision, Iktomi, the great trickster and teacher of wisdom, appeared in the form of a spider. Iktomi spoke to him in a sacred language. As he spoke, Iktomi the spider picked up the elder's willow hoop which had feathers, horsehair, beads, and offerings on it, and began to spin a web. 🐜🐜🐜 He spoke to the elder about the cycles of life; how we begin our lives as infants, move on through childhood and on to adulthood. Finally, we go to old age where we must be taken care of as infants, completing the cycle. "But", Iktomi said as he continued to spin his web, "in each time of life there are many forces; some good and some bad. If you listen to the good forces, they will steer you in the right direction. But, if you listen to the bad forces, they'll steer you in the wrong direction and may hurt you. So, these forces can ...

Who is this

Image
Who is this whose eyes even now sparkle through me like glass, stealing pieces of my soul as I stare through blurry shapes, her rippled laugh sends shivers down my spine with warm comfort, a familiarity, as if I'd spent a life with here already in a dream. It was as if the universe had written this at the beginning of time, and watched now high on clouds as it unfolded at last, smiling at my doubt, as if there was any chance I could not love this girl for the rest of time. ---- atticus

A liquid moon

A liquid moon moves gently among the long branches. Thus having prepared their buds against a sure winter the wise trees stand sleeping in the cold.         — William Carlos Williams, from “Winter Trees”

You have traveled

Image
You have traveled too fast over false ground; Now your soul has come to take you back. Take refuge in your senses, open up To all the small miracles you rushed through. Become inclined to watch the way of rain When it falls slow and free. Imitate the habit of twilight, Taking time to open the well of color That fostered the brightness of day. Draw alongside the silence of stone Until its calmness can claim you. ~ from TO BLESS THE SPACE BETWEEN US by John O'Donohue

What we want

Image
What we want… is never simple. We move among the things we thought we wanted: a face, a room, an open book and these things bear our names– now they want us. But what we want appears in dreams, wearing disguises. We fall past, holding out our arms and in the morning our arms ache. We don’t remember the dream, but the dream remembers us. It is there all day as an animal is there under the table, as the stars are there even in full sun.        ~ Linda Pastan, What We Want

Pieces of fragile lace

Image
A spider spins a micro fine thread, her gentle web to weave, It is with awe, that we behold this art, one can't believe This work, viewed on a frosty morn, portrays pieces of fragile lace, How can a tiny creature create these patterns, with silent grace. She works with great dedication, using skills beyond belief, Securing her thread to one, and then another sturdy leaf, Or twig, or gate, or fence, or flower, whatever is to hand, A magical spun gossamer, her love sealed in every strand. © Ernestine Northover

People coming and going

Image
It's so weird how life is so full of moving around – people coming and going, people passing by each other all day long. You never know which person’s going to steal your heart. You never know which place is going to settle your soul. All you can do is look. And hope. And believe." A Snicker of Magic (Natalie Lloyd)

Stuntman in our own life

Image
All of us are stuntmen in our own lives. We take great risks, we fall down, we get hurt, if it fails we get up and do it again. Sometimes we even die in various ways. The only difference between us and the Hollywood professionals is no one is filming us putting our lives on the line. —  Jonathan Carroll

A walk around the beach

Image
We walked along the beach, upon the sandy shore Our foorprints made a path, which disappeared behind A symbol of our journey, the good times and the bad We looked ahead and walked, your hand in mine so kind The waves were crashing noises, forcing us to look At natures powerful creature, each wave a testing sight That tides could come and go, and wash away a land Our love will keep the tempest, at bay with all its might The seagulls screeched above, unpleasantly at times They fought amongst themselves, like scavengers they were Perhaps the outside forces, are similar as such They'll try to make as part at times, and shed a many tear  But as we walk we notice, the waves begin to cease The seagulls are behind us now, the wind no longer there I think we've passed the bad time, our steps begin to slow We hold on tight and focus hard, our hands entwined we care Bradley Lester

"Loss"

If I can stop

Image
If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, Or cool one pain, Or help one fainting robin Unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain. Emily Dickinson 💖

Our lives are touched ....

Image
"Our lives are touched Like ripples and waves By the lives of others, Whether princes or knaves. And like those waves, Some run deep And share so much We cannot keep The sorrow within Once they're no more. It tears our hearts At their very core. The joy that they brought Was beyond measure Full of a hope and A certain pleasure That only comes From sharing oneself With a kindred spirit Who tries to help. No one is prepared For this type of loss Though it's not uncommon When such paths cross. But it aches all the same And dims the sun And makes all the colors Run into one..." © Ted Stahl - digital mixed media and layered fractals

Happiness is a stone's throw away

Image
Happiness Is A Stone's Throw Away - Poem by Iohannes Silvaticus I would not mind being a stone, A plain old stone for being thrown Into cool pools by naughty children. To see their faces laugh as the ripples Radiate like the sunlight from their dimples From the bottom of the pond. Iohannes Silvaticus

Auguries Of Innocence

Auguries Of Innocence - Poem by William Blake To see a World in a Grain of Sand And a Heaven in a Wild Flower, Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand And Eternity in an hour. A Robin Red breast in a Cage Puts all Heaven in a Rage. A dove house fill'd with doves & Pigeons Shudders Hell thro' all its regions. A dog starv'd at his Master's Gate Predicts the ruin of the State. A Horse misus'd upon the Road Calls to Heaven for Human blood. Each outcry of the hunted Hare A fibre from the Brain does tear. A Skylark wounded in the wing, A Cherubim does cease to sing. The Game Cock clipp'd and arm'd for fight Does the Rising Sun affright. Every Wolf's & Lion's howl Raises from Hell a Human Soul. The wild deer, wand'ring here & there, Keeps the Human Soul from Care. The Lamb misus'd breeds public strife And yet forgives the Butcher's Knife. The Bat that flits at close of Eve Has left the Brain that won't b...

To bind ourselves to this world

Image
I am doing something I learned early to do, I am paying attention to small beauties, whatever I have–as if it were our duty to find things to love, to bind ourselves to this world. ~ Sharon Olds, from “Little Things” from The Gold Cell (Alfred A. Knopf, 1987)

Do not ask your children ....

Image
“Do not ask your children to strive for extraordinary lives. Such striving may seem admirable, but it is the way of foolishness. Help them instead to find the wonder and the marvel of an ordinary life. Show them the joy of tasting tomatoes, apples and pears. Show them how to cry when pets and people die. Show them the infinite pleasure in the touch of a hand. And make the ordinary come alive for them. The extraordinary will take care of itself.”  ~ William Martin Artist~Catherine Simpson

The rhythm of our emotion

Dolphins speak to us of the rhythm Of our emotions Breathing in joy before plunging into The depths and rushing to the surface To do it all over again..

I had a conversation with my soul

I had a conversation with my soul, Two where in it, You and me makes the whole. Half of my soul is I, The other half is you, Embrace each other, Feel for the other, Share pain and love for the other. One dances, the other smiles, One cries the other listens and understand. One laughs, the other laughs, One looks into me, directly. Two souls in me, A feeling as if known in eternity, I had a conversation with my soul, Two where in it, You and me makes the whole. Words of love spoke, Truth in words spoken. Passions awoke. I have been waiting

Image
I've never felt like this before. Like waking up from an everlasting sleep, straight to a delirium of new sensations. Like I have been waiting thousands of years to listen to a melody that would make my soul dance amongst parallel universes and realities. Secrets being unraveled before my eyes and it is as if my emotions are trying to balance on the strings of Time. Things will never be the same anymore... ~ Aphrodite Aphrodite, MP, Copyrights © Pure Emotions, 30/11/2017

Light travels faster

"Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always  got there first, and is waiting for it." - Terry Pratchett ~Cabal Virtuous Libertines

It matters not

Image
"It matters not if you are here or there, for I see you before me every moment. I see you in the light of the water, in the swaying of the young trees in the spring wind. I see you in the shadows of the great oaks, I hear your voice in the cry of the owl at night. You are the blood in my veins, and the beating of my heart. You are my first waking thought, and my last sigh before sleeping. You are - you are bone of my bone, and breath of my breath.” ~Juliet Marillier Artist~Ron Hicks Moonlight Serenade

Smaller than a grain of salt

Image
We are petrified of being alone and don't see it as an opportunity to fix what's broken or as an ideal time to set new goals. We don't listen to others' advice - whether we'd asked for it or not - because somewhere in our minds we think we know everything. We unrealistically expect other people to create or provide happiness for us and then we still wonder, years later, why we're not happy yet. The list goes on and on. Please note I said WE. Not you. Not me. We. We are human, much smaller than a grain of sand in the great scope of things. When will we start thinking further than our egos?

My heart burns

Salines He says I do not speak and my heart burns I would like to cross this country My eyes are full of war, my mouth is dry And I do not have any friends He says I come from the mine, in the city I seek forgiveness and forgetting I have my Bible on the chest, I walk to the saltworks He says no one saw me He says prayers save us And he does not kneel anymore Those who gave me birth are no longer alive He says no one on earth knows me I do not speak and I gave everything The world is full of brambles and what I was looking for I have never found He says I do not speak and my heart burns And I tore up my notebook He said I was dead in the middle of the concrete Today I only report to the stars in the sky And I beg forgiveness He says I will not wait for paradise But god knows I will have tried The world is full of brambles and what I was looking for I have never found - Raphael Haroche

The heart of a friend

Image
The Heart of a Friend I shot an arrow into the air, It fell to earth, I knew not where; For, so swiftly it flew, the sight Could not follow it in its flight. I breathed a song into the air, It fell to earth, I knew not where; For who has sight so keen and strong, That it can follow the flight of song? Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke; And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend. ~H.W. Longfellow Artist~Lisi Martin

The voice that beautifies the land

Image
The Voice That Beautifies the Land is the insistent call of the dove in spring, or the movement of rock on the mesa top, In answer to a rising cloud of butterflies. The Voice That Beautifies the Land is the squeak of corn growing high in summer, or the soft kiss of water touching sand Along the riverbank, where locusts demand to be heard. The Voice That Beautifies the Land is the whisper of dry leaves dancing in the fall, or the cry of geese in arrowhead formation, Saying farewell to the rivers that fed them. The Voice That Beautifies the Land is the murmur of snowflakes in winter, or the creak of old trees rising to catch them As the raven announces the shadow of spring. The Voice That Beautifies the Land is the chorus of clouds bumping into one another, or the crack of ice crying out for sun as the turtle sings of a new season in the mud.~Nancy Woods Artist~Jackie Morris
