Beneath the veil

Beneath the Veil
© E.L.
it was a day for love
a day for celebration
for a new beginning, as one
but she was not blushing
she was not thinking or feeling
of ever-after
she was buried beneath the veil
as if swallowed by a darkness
instead of light
a lifetime seemed a sentence
not a dream
a punishment, not prize
there was no anticipation
and oddly no doubt
her feet were not cold
her spirit was dipped in sorrow
with a sense of defeat
of loss and giving in
this was not a beginning
for her,
but an end
