The destination that defines

An active course is one
That a traveler must amend.
Think of a speed skater
Racing across the ice.
His or her skates don't
Go in the same direction twice.
Each travels forward and out
Alternating left and right.
Both counter each other
But not in a separate plight.
The arms support the motion
As the body sways to and fro -
Propelling the skater forward
In spite of the ebb and flow.
This is a lesson from which
Each one of us can learn -
Sometimes the most direct path
Is the one that's full of turns."
