Sparrows

Where did all the sparrows go?
They were here in abundance years ago
I am told they are still there
But why are they now so very rare?
Is it mobile phone transmitters that are to blame?
Did they somehow get too tame?
Instead of peace and flying free
Did they become a feline delicacy?
I remember watching them have a bath
Ruffling their feathers and making me laugh.
Sweet and harmless little creatures
Settling on our garden features.
Taken for granted at our cost
Never loved till they were lost.
